Valladolid is one of the more famous cities in Mexico. It is therefore very popular with holidaymakers. It is definitely worth visiting this pleasant city in the Yucatan province. Besides the fact that this colonial city is beautiful and cozy, there are a lot of sights in the area that you want to see. Not too far from here you will find the famous Chichén Itzá, and numerous beautiful cenotes. In this blog you will find all our tips for restaurants and places to visit in Valladolid.

Spend a day (or two) in the city
As I said above, Valladolid is a beautiful colonial city. So there is a lot to see here. You cannot ignore all the colored houses, beautiful churches and buildings. So you can have a great time walking through the city for one or two days. In the middle of the city you will find a central square with a beautiful old church (as with most colonial cities in Central America). You can walk around this square or sit on a bench in the sun. There are all nice restaurants around the square, but you can also get something tasty at one of the stalls.

What to do in Valladolid: rent a scooter
With a scooter you have the freedom to get to know the city even better. But also to directly visit sights in the area. You don't have to take a tour bus or a taxi to the surrounding cenotes and ancient Mayan villages. Throughout the city you will find several rental companies, almost all with the same type of scooters. Get out on time in the morning to rent a scooter, otherwise you have a chance that they are all already rented out.
PRICE: €20 per day for a scooter.
Visit the beautiful cenotes
In the province of Yucatan, around Valladolid, there are a lot of cenotes. There are too many to list them all and there will probably also be a number of unknowns. So you can choose whether you prefer to visit the busy, well-known or the quiet, lesser-known cenotes. But visiting cenotes is definitely something you should do when you are in Valladolid.

Cenote Suytun
One of the most famous and busiest cenotes is Cenote Suytun. You've probably seen this before on the internet or social media. The platform in the water on which the light shines provides the perfect photo spot. Many people think so, because it is very busy here. You will even have to queue to take a picture. So wise to go on time!

Please note that you are required to shower and wear a life jacket at this cenote. Also, there is another cenote 10 minutes away. This one is more open and you won't see many people here. Everyone comes for the cenote with the platform. You can swim in both cenotes. You only pay one entrance fee for both.
PRICE: €7,50 per person.

Cenote X’Canche
This cenote is located next to Ek'Balam, an ancient Mayan village. If you do not go to Chichén Itzá, you can choose to visit both Ek'Balam and cenote X'Canche here. Ek'Balam is a lot quieter than Chichén Itzá, so nice if you don't like the crowds. The cenote is also a lot quieter than, for example, cenote Suytun. You pay a separate entrance fee for both.
Cenote X'Canche is not only beautiful, but you can also swing on a rope and zipline into the water. You pay a little extra for the zipline, but not for the rope and swimming with a life jacket. There is also a mini waterfall that falls into the cenote. Around this cenote you will encounter more animals than at the busier cenotes. Very nice if you prefer nature and tranquility!

PRICE: €8.80 for entrance to the cenote only.
So there are many more cenotes, of which open cenotes, semi-open cenotes and underground cenotes. Below you will find a few more, so you can choose which one you prefer to visit.
- Cenote Zaci
- Cenote San Lorenzo Oxman
- Cenote Dzitnup
- Cenote Saamal
- Cenote Xkeken
- Cenote Hubiku
- Cenote Zazil tunich
- Cenote Ik-Kil
- Cenote Yokdzonot
- Cenote Ucil
Restaurants in Valladolid
Le’Kaat
You can have a delicious vegetarian or vegan breakfast, lunch or dinner here. They have delicious pizzas, pastas, salads, sandwiches, pastries, juices and smoothies. Difficult to choose, and all equally delicious!
Itamae sushi valladolid
You have to be here for tasty sushi. The restaurant has a very long garden. At the beginning is a pasta and pizza restaurant and at the back you will find the sushi restaurant. Certainly one of the tastiest sushi in all of Central America. They just like to put cream cheese in the sushi (all over Central America). If you don't like this, you better not eat sushi here.

Marquisita in the square
When in Valladolid you must try a marquesita. These are really really tasty! It's like an ice cream cone that you can put whatever you want in it. I always choose the banana and Nutella combo… hmmm! 😋
Warehouse total gym
If you would like to work out, Warehouse total gym is a very nice gym near Valladolid. For €5 you have an entrance pass for a day. You can also get a tasty protein shake here afterwards.
Enough to do in and around Valladolid. You don't want to miss this lively city with beautiful surroundings and many sights when you travel through Mexico. Something different from the famous coastal towns of Tulum, Cancun and Playa del Carmen!
