The most beautiful waterfall in Bali? That is without a doubt the Sekumpul waterfall. In our opinion, this waterfall is even one of the most beautiful waterfalls in SoutheasternAsia, together with the Tumpak Sewu waterfall in Java and the Ban Gioc waterfall in Vietnam. You have to drive quite a bit for it, but this beautiful waterfall is definitely worth it! Wondering how to get to the Sekumpul waterfall and what you can expect from it? Then read on quickly.
The Sekumpul waterfall
The Sekumpul waterfall is located in the north of Bali, in the middle of a green valley in the jungle. The main waterfall consists of two water streams, which split into two large and two small waterfalls. Together these form the enormous, beautiful Sekumpul waterfall. In addition to this main waterfall, there are also two hidden waterfalls in the same valley: the Hidden Waterfall and the Fiji Waterfall. These waterfalls, together with the green surroundings, create a beautiful picture.

FACT: The water of the Sekumpul waterfall falls from a height of about 80 meters, making it one of the largest waterfalls on the island.
How to get to the Sekumpul waterfall?
From Ubud it takes about 2 to 3 hours to get to the Sekumpul waterfall, so quite a distance. However, you can also visit this waterfall from other areas such as Munduk or Lovina. We stayed in Lovina when we visited this waterfall, making it only a 50 minute drive to the North Entrance of the waterfall.
You can choose to be taken by a private driver, gojek or drive the scooter yourself. We recommend the latter, so that you can also take the small paths along the way. You can rent a scooter for about 4 to 10 euros per day, which is a lot cheaper than a driver for 30 or 40 euros.

To the waterfall
The walk from the entrance is not that difficult and takes about 30 minutes. You mainly walk down via various stairs. You can fully enjoy the view along the way. There are a number of viewpoints and you can quickly spot the Sekumpul waterfall and the Fiji waterfall. During the short hike you will also walk (with a guide) past the Hidden waterfall. A number of small waterfalls flow down a narrow part of the valley. You also walk through the cold water for a while here.

Then you walk for another two minutes and the enormous, high Sekumpul waterfall appears. A beautiful picture! In a green oasis the water splashes down from a height of 80 meters. You immediately feel the small droplets on your body like a kind of sprinkler. And then you can just enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the sound of the waterfall. If you feel like it, you can also take a dip in the cold water at the bottom of the waterfall. A nice way to cool down, especially if you visit the waterfall later in the day.
TIP: Go to the Sekumpul waterfall early in the morning, then you have the best chance that it is still quiet.

The Fiji waterfall
Want to visit the Fiji waterfall as well? Then choose the 250,000 IDR ticket. This waterfall is located even further away and the hike is also a bit more challenging. If the weather is clear, you can already spot the Fiji waterfall several times from a distance on your way to the Sekumpul waterfall.
Opening hours and prices Sekumpul waterfall
The Sekumpul waterfall is open daily from 08:00 to 17:00. At the entrance you can choose from three options, depending on how far you want to go and how many waterfalls you want to see up close:
20,000 IDR (~€1.15): you can walk to the viewpoint and already enjoy a beautiful view of the waterfall from there. Please note: this ticket is now only sold to local visitors.
150,000 IDR (~€8.50): you do the full hike to the Sekumpul waterfall and the Hidden waterfall with a local guide. This is the most popular option for tourists and what we recommend.
250,000 IDR (~€14): in addition to the Sekumpul and Hidden waterfall, you also hike to the Fiji waterfall. This route is a bit longer and more challenging, but definitely worth it while you're there.
NB: You don't need to hire a guide, but locals at the entrance can be quite pushy about it. Keep in mind that the 20,000 IDR ticket is now only sold to local visitors. As a tourist, you'll pay either 150,000 or 250,000 IDR.

Can you swim at the Sekumpul waterfall?
Yes, at the bottom of the waterfall you can take a dip in the cold water. A refreshing experience, especially when you visit later in the day. Bring your swimwear if you want to do this. It's also a good idea to wear something you don't mind getting wet, as the sheer force of the water guarantees you'll get soaked.
The hanging restaurant at the Sekumpul waterfall
New at the Sekumpul waterfall is the Hanging Restaurant & Bar. From this restaurant you have a stunning view of the waterfall while enjoying food or drinks. A great way to relax after the hike and definitely worth including in your plans.
What should you take with you to Sekumpul Waterfall?
- Adry bag, because you will get wet anyway.
- Some snacks and plenty of water.
- Sunscreen, because the sun also shines quite a bit in the valley.
- Swimwear, if you also want to swim in the waterfall.
- Water shoes, because sometimes you walk through the water for a while.
Combine with the Lemukih water slide
Just 30 minutes' drive from the Sekumpul waterfall you'll find the Lemukih water slide, a natural water slide in the middle of the nature of North Bali. The water has carved a channel through the rocks that you can slide through — one of the most fun activities we did in Bali. These two are perfect to combine in one day. Read everything about the Lemukih water slide in our separate guide, or book a tour that combines both in one day.
